Board of Commissioners

CHICAGO RIDGE PARK DISTRICT

July 8, 2015

 

CALL TO ORDER

President Pratl called the meeting to order at 8:00pm.

 

ROLL CALL

The following commissioners were present:  Commissioners Crout, Conrad, Egan, and Pratl.   Commissioner Lind was absent with notice.  Also present: Director King, Recreation Superintendent Malito and Maintenance Supervisor Biskey.

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Everyone participated in the Pledge of Allegiance. 

 

PUBLIC/STAFF WISHING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD

There was no one to address the Board.

 

RECREATION COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Crout gave the floor to Superintendent Malito for his report.

 

Superintendent’s Report

Superintendent Malito reported on the Day Camp program events.  Commissioner Pratl commented that he received many compliments on the Chicago trolley tour.

 

Playoffs for the men’s basketball league began July 8th and will conclude July 11th.

 

Superintendent Malito is working with the intern to put on a special event which will be a Trivia Night at the Park.

 

Wewannatoo play camp will be finishing on July 9th and Park and Pad time will begin on July 13th.

 

The Park District Facebook and Twitter pages are up and running.  Pictures of day camp, upcoming and past events and other park related messages are being posted on both sites.

 

The day camp children had a Blackhawks Day and prepared a booklet and DVD for the Blackhawks team and invited them to the Park District on their Stanley Cup tour.

 

 Superintendent Malito is working on the Fall brochure.

 

MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Egan reported that he spoke with Director King regarding the Guardian Park upgrades which are going well.  They are still working on getting some new pieces at this park.

Ball Fore has been doing great with only minor issues which are being taken care of by staff.

 

Supervisor’s Report

Maintenance Supervisor Biskey elaborated on the operation of the facilities stating that there are no major problems.  He reported on the progress of the tree removal as well as the upgrades to Guardian Park.

 

The dead bushes in front of Freedom Activity Center will be removed next week.  Wood chips will be added in their place.

 

Seal coating was done at Menard on July 3rd.  There is a small tear in the Pour-n-Play surfacing in the park which was repaired by the Maintenance staff.  Discussion ensued.

 

Superintendent Malito and Maintenance Supervisor Biskey then exited the meeting.

 

Director’s Report

Director King reported on the security firm that began patrolling the parks.  They are patrolling between 3pm-8pm.

 

Director King met with Chuck from NuToys regarding some new pieces to add to Guardian Park.  He reported that the cost for the new pieces might be prohibitive at this point and the turn-around time will be as much as 5-6 weeks.  Director King suggested that if the Board wants to wait until next year for a major renovation, they might consider other playground companies for the equipment.

 

Director King encouraged the Board to see the effect of the tree removal at Guardian Park.

 

In regard to the Lily Pad, there is still a perplexing issue with the water usage.  Director King will be meeting with the Village on this.

 

The Board was given a permit request for the Volleyball for Charity event.  Oak Lawn Park District will be running this event.

 

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Lind was not at the meeting.  No report was given.  The Board was given financial statement for their review.

 

SPECIAL PROJECTS

Chair Report

Commissioner Conrad made some comments regarding the upgrading of Guardian Park.  Discussion ensued.

 

He also suggested adding to the meditation area at Lombard Park.

There was no old business to discuss.

 

NEW BUSINESS

There was no old business to discuss.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION

President Pratl called for a motion to enter into Executive Session at 8:37pm for the purpose of discussing the employment of specific employee(s).  Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion Carried.

 

Open Session

President Pratl opened the session at 8:44pm.

Roll Call:  Commissioner Crout, Conrad, Egan & Pratl

Also present was Director King.

 

President Pratl called for a motion to approve pay raises and title changes as proposed by the Finance Committee and discussed in Executive Session.  Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

Ayes:              Commissioner Crout, Conrad, Egan, Pratl

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion Carried.

 

These changes will take affect by the next pay period and be retroactive to May 1st.

President Pratl congratulated Superintendent Biskey on his promotion.

President Pratl called for a motion to adjourn at 8:47pm.  Motion was made by Commissioner Egan and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.  All in favor, aye.  Motion carried.
