Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners

CHICAGO RIDGE PARK DISTRICT

March 25, 2015

CALL TO ORDER

President Pratl called the meeting to order at 7:01pm.

 

ROLL CALL

The following Commissioners were present:   Crout, Egan, Conrad and Pratl. Commissioner Lind was absent en route.

Also present: Director King, Recreation Superintendent Malito and Maintenance Supervisor Biskey.

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Everyone joined in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

President Pratl called for a motion to approve the minutes of the Combined Regular Committee/Board meeting of the Board of Commissioners dated February 25, 2015.   Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

Ayes:              Commissioner Crout, Egan, Pratl

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion Carried.

 

President Pratl called for a motion to approve the minutes of the Regular Committee Meeting of the Board of Commissioners dated March 11, 2015.  Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

Ayes:              Commissioner Crout, Conrad, Pratl

Nays:              None

Abstain:         Commissioner Egan

Motion Carried.

 

PUBLIC/STAFF WISHING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD

There was no one to address the Board.

 

** Commissioner Lind entered the meeting at 7:03 p.m.**

 

FINANCE

Commissioner Lind made a motion to approve cash disbursements for February/March in the amount of $49,192.03    Motion was seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion Carried.

 

REPORTS

President:

Commissioner Pratl commented on the progress of the Menard Playground project. 

 

He also stated that he has talked with Director King regarding the budget and that the preliminary budget will be available for next meeting.

 

Commissioner Pratl conveyed a “thank you” to the Board from Attorney Stillman for the sympathy flowers that were sent on behalf of the Board.

 

Attorney:

Attorney Stillman was not at the meeting.  No report was given.

 

Director:

Director King elaborated on the progress of the Menard Playground project. 

 

LifeFitness equipment is scheduled to arrive by April 11th in time for the fitness challenge that has been set up.

 

Director King reported that they will be getting some new product from Gold Medal for the concession stand – caramel popcorn and possibly flavored popcorn.  Maintenance Supervisor Jeff Biskey and Facilities Coordinator Gayle Boettger went to an exhibit to look at a new slushy machine, etc. and other items.

 

Ring of Honor had a big event at Frontier Fieldhouse on Saturday, March 21st which went very well.

 

Director King complimented Maintenance Supervisor Biskey for completing PDRMA’s Playground Maintenance Course.

 

The Board was informed of the recent review and revisions to the Corporate Policy Manual.  The Corporate Policy Manual is kept at the District’s Administration Office.

 

Director King informed the Board that he attended a meeting of the IUPC regarding current energy costs.  It has been and continues to be advantageous for the Park District to take advantage of the cost savings by continuing to be a part of the Co-Op.

 

COMMITTEES:

Recreation:

Commissioner Crout asked Recreation Superintendent Malito about the Easter events scheduled for Saturday, March 28th.

 

Recreation Superintendent Malito reported on all the plans he has scheduled for that day.  He also reported on the Spring Break field trip; there were 41 participants.

 

The Co-ed Volleyball league ended on March 6th; a new season begins in June.  Men’s basketball league ended March 17th; a new season begins April 1st.

 

The artist has started drawing the mural on the wall of the Freedom Activity Center.

 

Registrations for Summer Day Camp have been coming in. 

 

Maintenance:

Commissioner Conrad also complimented Maintenance Supervisor Biskey on getting his Playground Maintenance Certificate.  He then gave the floor to Supervisor Biskey for his report.

 

Maintenance Supervisor Biskey reported that the new mower is in.  He then reported on the work they are doing on the ball fields.

 

A back section of a park bench at Guardian Park has been replaced.  The swing set has also been painted and a worn out section of a tot component has been replaced.

 

Maintenance Supervisor Biskey, and two maintenance staff members attended another PDRMA safety training class.  All maintenance staff has now been trained in Ergonomics and Back Safety.

 

Maintenance Supervisor Biskey reported on the problems with the toilets at Freedom Activity Center.  The Board was given some quotes/prices for new toilets for their review.

 

Commissioner Pratl reminded Supervisor Biskey to be ready for the baseball season opening day.

 

The Maintenance staff continues to clean and disinfect facilities.

 

Special Projects: 

Commissioner Egan had nothing to report at this time. 

 

In regard to the cameras, Commissioners Lind and Pratl are still looking into getting quotes.

 

Director King is still researching other security measures for the parks.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

There was no old business to discuss.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

There was no new business to discuss.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION:

There was no need to enter into Executive Session.

 

ADJOURN

President Pratl called for a motion to adjourn at 7:38pm.  Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.   All in favor, everyone responded aye.  Motion Carried.
