Regular Committee/Board Meeting of the

Board of Commissioners

CHICAGO RIDGE PARK DISTRICT

August 13, 2014

 

CALL TO ORDER

President Pratl called the meeting to order at 8:12pm.

 

ROLL CALL

The following commissioners were present:  Commissioners Crout absent with notice, Lind, Egan absent with notice, Conrad and Pratl.   Also present: Director King, Recreation Superintendent Malito and Maintenance Supervisor Biskey.

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Everyone participated in the Pledge of Allegiance. 

 

PUBLIC/STAFF WISHING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD

There was no one to address the Board.

 

RECREATION COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Crout was not at the meeting.  President Pratl gave the floor to Superintendent Malito for his report.

 

Superintendent’s Report

Recreation Superintendent Malito reported on the end-of-season day camp activities.

 

Full day RAH has begun.  They have been conducting interviews for additional staff for this program.

 

Bus camera installation has begun; should be finished this week.

 

Southwest Airlines hosted a basketball tournament on Wednesday, August 6th at Frontier.  Director King reported that they worked out a deal with concessions which worked out well.

 

Superintendent Malito also reported that he spoke with vortex regarding the changing out of the spray heads for the devices.  He was informed that the spray heads cannot be changed out and that the entire feature would need to be changed.  He will be evaluating the feasibility of this.

 

Men’s basketball league began this week with 3 games on Mondays and 3 games on Wednesdays.

 

MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Conrad reported that he stopped at an artist’s store in Tinley Park; the owner said he may have an artist to paint the side of the Freedom Activity Center. 

 

Supervisor’s Report

Maintenance Supervisor Biskey reported that Mohawk Electric was out to replace a bad breaker at Frontier and address a lighting issue at the Administration building.

 

Ball Fore continues to run with no issues.  The Lily Pad has been closed for the Ridge Fest.  The pumps screens and valves were checked and cleaned and the holding tank was drained and pressure washed during the shutdown.

 

Maintenance staff continues to clean buildings, clean and inspect parks, trim and water all landscaped areas.  Supervisor Biskey stated that he is keeping a record of man hours spent on watering the new sod that the Village put down.

 

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Lind had nothing to report at this time.  Commissioner Pratl reported that he met with Director King and Dave Phillips of Speer Financial to discuss monies for future projects stating that with the way the bonds are set up and current favorable interest rates now would be a good time to begin some projects. The Board discussed doing the Menard playground and parking lot improvements.  Mr. Phillips will be doing the paperwork to secure approximately $500,000 for these capital improvements. 

 

SPECIAL PROJECTS

Chair Report

Commissioner Egan was not at the meeting.  No report was given.  Commissioner Pratl stated that he would like Commissioner Egan to review the Policy Manual to see if any updates are needed.

 

OLD BUSINESS

There was no old business to discuss.

 

NEW BUSINESS

There was no new business to discuss.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION

There was no need to enter into Executive Session.

 

ADJOURN. 

President Pratl called for a motion to adjourn at 8:40pm.  Motion was made by Commissioner Lind and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.  All in favor, aye.  Motion carried.
