Regular Committee/Board Meeting of the

Board of Commissioners

CHICAGO RIDGE PARK DISTRICT

June 11, 2014

 

CALL TO ORDER

President Pratl called the meeting to order at 8:00pm.

 

ROLL CALL

The following commissioners were present:  Commissioners Crout, Lind, Egan absent with notice, Conrad and Pratl.   Also present: Director King, Recreation Superintendent Malito and Maintenance Supervisor Biskey.

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Everyone participated in the Pledge of Allegiance. 

 

PUBLIC/STAFF WISHING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD

There was no one to address the Board.

 

RECREATION COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Crout asked about the numbers for the Day Camp program.  Recreation Superintendent Malito reported that there are currently 80 children registered but he anticipates a rush of registrations now that school is done.  The new inflatable water slide arrived and will be set up the first week of camp.

 

Superintendent’s Report

Recreation Superintendent Malito also reported that there are 15 registrants for the T-ball class.

 

The Illinois State Open was held Saturday, June 7th with 7 golfers; the Western Open will be June 27th & 28th.  The ADCC (Abu Dabi Combat Club) grappling event is set for Saturday, June 21st at Frontier Fieldhouse.

 

Recreation Superintendent Malito also reported that there is a group looking to use our facility for a special recreation gym class every Tuesday and Thursday from September to May – 7:55am – 9:00am for about 40 children.  Commissioner Pratl inquired about the organization; Recreation Superintendent Malito said it was several school districts.   There was some discussion regarding the rental fee for this.

 

Commissioner Pratl complimented Superintendent Malito on the list of field trips for Day Camp for the amount of trips as well as the variety.

 

MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Conrad reported that the gates have been installed at Ball Fore which looks more professional.  Commissioner Conrad also commended  Maintenance Supervisor Biskey for his diligence in getting the repairs done to Ball Fore after the power surge and gave the floor to Supervisor Biskey for his report.

 

Supervisor’s Report

Maintenance Supervisor Biskey reported on some of the damage that was done to the Ball Fore facility as a result of this power surge and what is being done about it.  He has worked with Mohawk Electric on some of these issues.  New motors and CPU boards have been ordered and installed for the batting cages and they are now running fine.

 

In regard to the weeds at Ball Fore, Supervisor Biskey reported that he is working with Kamphuis Landscaping to remedy this problem.

 

The new fountains for Ball Fore have been installed.

 

The Lily Pad is running fine. 

 

Maintenance staff continues to keep the parks clean and the grass cut.

 

Commissioner Pratl directed Supervisor Biskey to remove the sticks around the Village’s memorial tree.

 

Maintenance Supervisor Biskey & Recreation Superintendent Malito exited the meeting.

 

Director’s Report

Director King gave the Board an e-mail from KirbyBuilt stating that the materials for the Commissioners Park sign that was supposed to be delivered on May 30th would not be available until June 17th.   Commissioner Pratl informed the Board that he cancelled that order and after discussion, the Board decided to wait until after they have decided what special project(s) they want to do at this park.

 

Director King reported on the 1st Farmer’s Market stating that the Park District’s contribution of tents, etc. has changed dramatically as well as the time the Park District is putting in with delivering, setting up and taking down the tents, sound system, tables & chairs.  Commissioner Pratl stated that certain things are changing about the Farmer’s Market and they may not need as many set-up materials from the Park District as previously thought. 

 

The Board was given a letter regarding the Village’s 100th anniversary parade to review.

 

In regard to the Freedom Activity Center, director King stated that they are getting some quotes for power washing, painting and tuck pointing and hopes to have this project done in a timely manner.

 

The Board was given TIF information regarding the proposed Village of Chicago Ridge 103rd Street & Harlem Avenue.

 

The Board was given PTAB information from the Attorney regarding the Chicago Ridge Nursing and Rehab property as well as the Sears settlement.

 

 

 

 

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Lind had nothing to report at this time.  Director King stated that he will be going to the TIF meeting.  Commissioner Pratl also said he would try to make it.

 

 

SPECIAL PROJECTS

Chair Report

Commissioner Egan was not at the meeting.  No report was given. 

 

Commissioner Pratl informed the Board that he is still waiting to hear when the next meeting will be for the Village’s 100th anniversary celebration.

 

OLD BUSINESS

There was no old business to discuss.

 

NEW BUSINESS

There was no new business to discuss.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION

There was no need to enter into Executive Session.

 

ADJOURN. 

President Pratl called for a motion to adjourn at 8:47pm.  Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.  All in favor, aye.  Motion carried.
