Regular Committee/Board Meeting of the

Board of Commissioners

CHICAGO RIDGE PARK DISTRICT

February 13, 2013

 

CALL TO ORDER

President Pratl called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm.

 

ROLL CALL

The following commissioners were present:  Commissioners Crout, Lind, Egan absent with notice, Conrad and Pratl.   Also present: Director King, Recreation Superintendent Dominic Malito and Maintenance Supervisor Jeff Biskey. 

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Everyone participated in the Pledge of Allegiance. 

 

PUBLIC/STAFF WISHING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD

There was no one to address the Board.

 

RECREATION COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Crout asked to report on the Daddy/Daughter Date Night event. 

Recreation Superintendent Malito reported that were 302 people in attendance.

 

Superintendent’s Report

Recreation Superintendent Malito continued his report on the Disney on Ice trip- all 30 tickets were sold. 

 

The summer brochure will be postponed; however, flyers for the rest of the winter programs as well as the spring programs coming up will be sent to the schools and current program participants.

 

Other programs reported on were the men’s basketball league, co-ed volleyball league and the instructional basketball league which currently has 18 participants.

 

In regard to the flyers, Commissioner Lind suggested contacting the schools to see if they could attach them to an e-mail that goes out to all the parents. 

 

Commissioner Pratl stated that he heard many compliments regarding the Daddy/Daughter Date night. 

 

Recreation Superintendent Malito opened discussion regarding the holiday house decorating contests.  Commissioner Pratl suggested that they will need to think about how the winners will be awarded and also suggested that registration for this be on-line so as to avoid any registration problems.  This will be discussed at a later date

 

MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Conrad gave the floor to Maintenance Supervisor Biskey for his report.

 

Supervisor’s Report

Maintenance Supervisor Biskey reported that new tables are needed and informed the Board as to the tables he saw at the conference which were expensive.  Tables from Menard’s would suit our needs.

 

He so reported that the maintenance staff has retiled the men’s bathroom floor at Frontier.  That facility was also thoroughly cleaned.

 

Maintenance Supervisor Biskey commented that he met with a gentleman regarding the UV filtration system.  More information will be available for the next meeting.

 

Maintenance Supervisor Biskey thanked the Board for sending him to the Maintenance Management School.  He learned a great deal and gained a better perspective of the Park District Community.

 

Commissioner Conrad commented that he saw some fountains at the Conference that might be good for the ponds at Ball Fore.   

 

Commissioner Pratl commented that he would like to sit down with Maintenance Supervisor Biskey to discuss plans for the green area behind the Lombard building.  He also suggested thinking about fencing in the area.  There was also discussion regarding the pour-in-play surface.  Director King said he would get some information for next meeting.

 

Recreation Superintendent Malito and Maintenance Supervisor Biskey then exited the meeting.

 

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Commissioner Lind had nothing to report at this time.  Director King informed the Board that he has received several notices of tax appeals.  If these appeals are won, it may affect the budget.  The Board will need to decide if they want to contest these appeals. 

 

SPECIAL PROJECTS

Commissioner Egan was not at the meeting.  The Board was given a proposal regarding the feasibility study of Freedom Activity Center renovations for their review.

 

Chair Report

OLD BUSINESS

Commissioner Lind asked about the fitness equipment on the walking path.  Director King stated that nothing has changed.

 

NEW BUSINESS

President Pratl called for a motion to approve Ordinance #2013-01 abating tax levied for the year 2012 to pay debt service on General Obligations Park Bonds (Alternate Revenue Source), Series 2006 of the Chicago Ridge Park District.  Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

 

Roll Call

Ayes:              Commissioner Crout, Lind, Conrad, Pratl

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion Carried.

 

President Pratl called for a motion to approve Ordinance #2013-02 abating tax levied for the year 2012 to pay debt service on General Obligations Park Bonds (Alternate Revenue Source), Series 2012 of the Chicago Ridge Park District.  Motion was made by Commissioner Lind and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

Motion Carried.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION

There was no need to enter Executive Session.

 

ADJOURN

President Pratl called for a motion to adjourn at 7:36pm.  Motion was made by Commissioner Lind and seconded by Commissioner Crout.  All in favor, aye.  Motion carried.
