Regular Committee/Board Meeting of the

Board of Commissioners

CHICAGO RIDGE PARK DISTRICT

May 9, 2012

 

CALL TO ORDER

President Pratl called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

 

ROLL CALL

The following commissioners were present:  Commissioners Crout, Lind – absent with notice, Egan- absent with notice, Conrad, and Pratl.   Also present: Director King, Recreation Supervisor Dominic Malito.

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Everyone participated in the Pledge of Allegiance. 

 

PUBLIC/STAFF WISHING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD

There was no one to address the Board.

 

RECREATION COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Crout asked about the registration for the Mother/Son Bowl.  Recreation Supervisor Malito stated that they currently have 42 signed up and is anticipating a few more before the event.  Recreation Supervisor Malito also reported on the registration for Tiny Tots Soccer, T-Ball, Ultimate Frisbee and Whiffle Ball.

 

Supervisor’s Report

Recreation Supervisor Malito reported that the Pitch, Hit and Run event was cancelled due to weather and will not be rescheduled due to the sectionals on May 13th.  Other events coming up are Mother/Son Bowl on May 11th, Kite fly on May 12th, and the Chicago Ridge Invitational golf tournament on May 20th.  There was some discussion regarding changing the date for the Kite Fly in hopes to insure better weather for the event. 

 

There are baseball game outings scheduled for May 14th and May 16th.  Recreation Supervisor Malito is hoping to have a good turnout for these.

 

Commissioner Conrad suggested making the Commissioner’s Classic golf tournament stand out with some extra giveaways.  Discussion ensued. 

 

Commissioner Pratl asked about the sales of the baseball helmets at Ball Fore.  Recreation Supervisor commented that sales were low, but anticipates more sales as the weather warms up.  Commissioner Conrad suggested more advertising for them.  Recreation Supervisor Malito will create bigger posters/signs.  The Board continued to discuss ways to increase concession sales at Ball Fore.

 

As there were no further questions, Recreation Supervisor Malito exited the meeting.

 

MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Conrad reported that they are waiting for new poles before putting up the new sign at Freedom.  The Board discussed the two signs for Lombard Park.  Commissioner Conrad said he would order them.

 

Commissioner Conrad also commented that he has been up to Ball Fore and it is looking very nice, but it is in need of some red mulch.  Commissioner Pratl asked about the greens; Director King said they would be replaced around the last week of June.

 

Commissioner Conrad asked about the ice-cream machine at Lily Pad.  Director King said he is still working on it.

 

Commissioner Conrad said he would like to see the grills at Freedom Park painted.

 

Commissioner Conrad also stated that the annual picnic for the special needs children is scheduled for May 17th.

 

Director’s Report

Director King reported on the playground renovation progress.  Everything is going well.  The poured-in-place surface will be done next week.  He is still anticipating a May 21st completion. 

 

The Board was given a preliminary budget to review.  Director King stated that they need to discuss staff evaluations by next meeting to get possible increases in the budget.

 

Director King reported that there is still an issue with the bleachers.  Director King has been in contact with the bleacher company as well as the floor company, but no one wants to take responsibility for the problem. 

 

Director King reported that Chicago Ridge School District 127.5 requested transportation for two events they have coming up.

 

The Board was given some information from the Legislative Conference which Director King attended.

 

The Board discussed upgrading the HVAC units at Frontier and Freedom.

 

Director King reported that the Senior Bingo/Luncheon had a good turnout.

 

The Board was given a letter from Commander Bryan Pudinoff regarding purchasing a lightning system for their review.  Discussion ensued.

 

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Lind was not at the meeting.  No report was given.

 

President Pratl called for a motion to review and adopt Ordinance #2012-03 Budget Adjustments to the Combined Budget/Appropriation Ordinance.  Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

Motion Carried.

 

President Pratl called for a motion to review and adopt the 2012-2013 preliminary budget.  Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

Motion Carried.

 

SPECIAL PROJECTS

Chair Report

Commissioner Egan was not at the meeting.  No report was given.  Director King informed the Board of some change orders from Green-up Landscaping and also that NuToys donated 3 benches to the new park.

 

OLD BUSINESS

There was no old business to discuss.

 

NEW BUSINESS

There was no new business to discuss.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION

There was no need to enter into Executive Session.

 

ADJOURN

President Pratl called for a motion to adjourn at 8:11pm.  Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.  All in favor, aye.  Motion carried.
