Regular Committee/Board Meeting of the

Board of Commissioners

CHICAGO RIDGE PARK DISTRICT

June 8, 2011

 

CALL TO ORDER

President Pratl called the meeting to order at 8:17 pm.

 

ROLL CALL

The following commissioners were present:  Commissioners, Crout, Egan, Conrad, Pratl.  Commissioner Lind was absent with notice. Also present: Recreation Supervisor Dominic Malito and Director King.

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Everyone participated in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

PUBLIC/STAFF WISHING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD

There was no one to address the Board.

 

RECREATION COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Crout asked about Day Camp.  Recreation Supervisor Malito said they were all set. 

 

Supervisor’s Report

Recreation Supervisor Malito reported that Play Camp currently has 42 children signed up in two classes and Day Camp registrations keep coming in. 

 

Recreation Supervisor Malito reported on the picnic for the deaf children at Freedom Park which was held on May 24th, stating that they all had a great time with over 200 people in attendance.

 

Other highlights included a Cubs game outing for 46 people on May 25th and the Ball Fore Open which was held on Sunday, June 5th; seven people participated in this event. 

The next Ball Fore tournament is the Commissioner’s Classic which will be held on Sunday, July 24.

 

Recreation Malito reported that they had 16 children participate in the mini classes and there are currently 33 children signed up for the T-ball class.  Discussion regarding the T-ball program ensued.  Commissioner Pratl suggested getting the parents’ input on this via the parent evaluation. Recreation Supervisor Malito then exited the meeting.

 

MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Conrad reported that the maintenance staff has been very busy cutting grass.  Commissioner Conrad also informed the Board that the company that put in the new signs at Ball Fore wants to come out to take pictures to put in their magazine.  He is also working with the sign company on designing a new sign for Freedom Park. 

 

 

 

 

Commissioner Conrad commented that the ball fields look good and the summer help is working out fine.

 

Commissioner Crout asked about damages from the recent storm.  Director King said that while they had branches down, no trees were lost.

 

Commissioner Pratl asked about the plans for the walking path around Freedom Park where the tree roots are coming up.  Commissioner Conrad said they are looking into some ideas for rerouting the path.  Discussion ensued.  This project will be held off until the fall.

 

Director’s Report

Director’s King’s report was covered under Recreation and Maintenance.

 

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Lind was not at the meeting.

 

SPECIAL PROJECTS

Chair Report

Commissioner Egan had nothing to report at this time.  Director King commented that the work on Frontier Fieldhouse will begin on Monday, and the plans for the Salute to Ridge Kids event are set.

 

Commissioner Pratl commented that they will need to discuss how to develop the fenced-in area by the Administration building and/or redoing the park.  This could be a spring project.

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

NEW BUSINESS

President Pratl called for a motion to adopt the Prevailing Wage Standards as Ordinance # 2011-04.  Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion carried.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION

There was no need to enter into Executive Session.

 

ADJOURN

A motion to adjourn was made by Commissioner Conrad and seconded by Commissioner Egan at 8:49pm.  All in favor, aye.  Motion carried.
