Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners

CHICAGO RIDGE PARK DISTRICT

December 22, 2010

 

CALL TO ORDER

President Pratl called the meeting to order at 7:00pm.

 

ROLL CALL

The following Commissioners were present:   Crout, Conrad and Pratl.

Commissioner Lind was absent with notice.  Also present was Recreation Supervisor, Dominic Malito and Director King.

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Everyone joined in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

President Pratl called for a motion to approve the minutes of the Combined Committee/Regular Board Meeting of the Board of Commissioners of November 10, 2010.  Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

Ayes:              Commissioner Crout, Conrad, Pratl

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion Carried.

 

President Pratl called for a motion to approve the minutes of the Regular Committee Meeting of the Board of Commissioners dated December 8, 2010.  Motion was made by Commissioner Conrad and seconded by Commissioner Crout.

Ayes:              Commissioner Crout, Conrad, Pratl

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion Carried.

 

PUBLIC/STAFF WISHING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD

President Pratl thanked the Holiday House Decorating winners for coming.  After a few comments and congratulations from the Commissioners, he presented them with their awards.  The first place winner was the Casper family, second place went to the Thielmann Family and third place went to the Clark family.  A photo was taken and the families exited the meeting.

 

FINANCE

President Pratl called for a motion to approve the November/December cash disbursements in the amount of $73,170.95.  Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

Abstain:         None 

Motion Carried.

 

REPORTS

President:    

Looking back over the year, Commissioner Pratl commented on the accomplishments of the Board with the 1st full operational year of the Lily Pad.  He stated that he is looking forward to the redevelopment of the Freedom Park playground in 2011.  He commented that it was a great year.  He complimented Recreation Supervisor, Dominica Malito on his work for the Park District thus far.  He also expressed thanks to the Director, Kevin King for his excellent work.

 

President Pratl wished everyone a Merry Christmas.

 

Attorney:

Attorney Stillman was not present at the meeting.  No report was given. 

 

Director:

Director King commented that the Park District has a good Board of Commissioners, one that works together to get things done, and thanked the Board for their involvement. 

 

In regard to the Freedom Park Playground, Director King informed that Board that the public notice for invitation to bid will be published on Friday, December 24, 2010.  Opening of the bids will be Tuesday, January 25 and the awarding of the bid will be at the meeting of the Board of Commissioners on January 26th.

 

After that, Director King said he will be working on the floor at Frontier.  The Board was given some information regarding this.

 

Director King commented that financially the Park District is doing good, stating that the audit went well and that the Park District did not have to borrow any monies nor did they need to do a tax anticipation warrant to pay the bonds that were due.  He is confident that the Park District will keep their “A” rating from Standard & Poor’s.

 

Director King thanked the Board on behalf of all the staff for the holiday bonuses they received.

 

In regard to maintenance, Director King reported that the staff is doing a good job keeping up with the snow removal and keeping the inside of the buildings clean as well.  He also reported that the tractor has been fixed and they are waiting for OFAB to set up the trucking company to have the picnic table shipped back.

 

COMMITTEES:

Recreation: 

Commissioner Crout extended a Merry Christmas to all the staff and complimented the staff on a good year.  She also thanked the Board for the work they have accomplished and commented that it was a pleasure working with them. 

 

Recreation Supervisor Dominic Malito thanked the Board for the opportunity to work for the Park District.  He then reported on the Breakfast with Santa event stating that there were 72 in attendance and complimented the staff on their work to make it a success.  Commissioner Conrad also stated that it was a fantastic event and complimented Recreation Supervisor Malito for a great event.

 

Ten families participated in the Holiday House Decorating Contest.  The RAH children were busy making holiday card for the senior citizens at the Lexington Retirement Home.  Recreation Supervisor Malito informed the Board that he has received a thank you letter from the St. Vincent DePaul Society for the food pantry items that were donated.

 

In regard to the RAH evaluations, Recreation Supervisor Mailto commented that he has received approximately 50 returned forms to date – he is hoping for 100.  He also commented that the RAH children will be going on a field trip on Tuesday, December 28th.

 

Commissioner Conrad complimented Recreation Supervisor Malito on a job well done.  Recreation Supervisor Malito wished everyone a Merry Christmas and then exited the meeting.

 

Maintenance:

Commissioner Conrad commented that the staff is doing a good job.  He reiterated the comments that it has been a privilege and pleasure to work on the Board of Commissioners for the Chicago Ridge Park District.  He also complimented Director King on his work. He also wished everyone a Merry Christmas.

 

Special Projects: 

Commissioner Lind was not at the meeting.  No report was given.  Commissioner Pratl commented that he is looking forward to getting the Freedom Park Renovations done in the New Year.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

President Pratl asked the Board to have the vacant seat on the Board filled prior to the election in April.  The Board agreed to have the Attorney draw up the necessary paperwork.

 

 

 

NEW BUSINESS:

President Pratl called for a motion to adopt a Resolution to Include Compensation Paid under an Internal Revenue Code Section 125 Plan as IMRF Earnings as Resolution #2010-14.  Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

EXECUTIVE SESSION:

There was no need to enter into Executive Session.

 

ADJOURN

President Pratl called for an adjournment of the meeting by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year at 7:35pm.  All in favor, aye.  Motion Carried.
