Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners

CHICAGO RIDGE PARK DISTRICT

October 27, 2010

 

CALL TO ORDER

President Pratl called the meeting to order at 7:02pm.

 

ROLL CALL

The following Commissioners were present:   Lind, Conrad and Pratl.

Commissioner Crout was absent with notice.  Also present was Recreation Supervisor, Dominic Malito and Library Board Member, Rich Egan.

President Pratl stated for the record that Commissioner Crout and Director King were at the National Recreation and Parks Association Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota and their absences have been excused.

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Everyone joined in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

President Pratl called for a motion to move item #4 on the Agenda to item #5.  Motion was made by Commissioner Lind and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

Ayes:              Commissioner Lind, Conrad, Pratl

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion carried.

 

PUBLIC/STAFF WISHING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD

President Pratl awarded the Marciniak family the 1st place award for the Halloween House Decorating Contest.  A plaque and certificate was awarded.  The Board congratulated them and photos were taken.  The Maciniak family thanked the Board and exited the meeting.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

President Pratl called for a motion to approve the minutes of the Regular Board Meeting of the Board of Commissioners of September 22, 2010.  Motion was made by Commissioner Lind and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion Carried.

 

President Pratl called for a motion to approve the minutes of the Regular Committee Meeting of the Board of Commissioners dated October 13, 2010.  Motion was made by Commissioner Lind and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion Carried.

 

FINANCE

Commissioner Lind made a motion to approve the September/October cash disbursements in the amount of $49,796.55.  Motion was seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None 

Motion Carried.

 

REPORTS

President:    

Commissioner Pratl stated that the goal for this meeting was to approve the specs for the new Freedom playground; however this will need to be tabled until the November Committee meeting when the Board has had a chance to review the revisions that were just received. 

 

Commissioner Pratl also complimented Recreation Supervisor Dominic Malito and the staff for a good Halloween event on Saturday and Sunday, saying they did an outstanding job.

 

Attorney:

Attorney Stillman was not present at the meeting.  No report was given.  Commissioner Pratl commented that he had talked with Attorney Stillman who will be at the next few meetings to discuss the playground.

 

Director:

Director King was not at the meeting.  His report was given to the Board for their review.  There were no questions.

 

COMMITTEES:

Recreation: 

Recreation Supervisor Dominic Malito reported on the Dribble Dish and Swish event held last Wednesday, October 20th.  He said he would like to offer it again in conjunction with the Turkey Shoot on November 19th.  He reported that the Halloween in the Park events at Freedom went well with about 55-60 children participating, and the Spooktacular events at Ball Fore also went well.

 

Mr. Malito informed the Board that the new winter brochure would be out by the 2nd week in November.  He also stated that they had 37 children signed up for the Shedd Aquarium trip on November 2nd, and 64 seniors signed up for the Senior Luncheon on November 9th.  He reported that there were a total of 6 girls who attended the Movie and a Makeover night; however, he stated that he was not in attendance.  He also reported on classes that were cancelled and classes that were still being offered.

 

Mr. Malito commented that the carpets at Freedom and Lombard are to be cleaned on Saturday, October 30th. 

 

Commissioner Conrad told Mr. Malito to finalize the purchase of the new stove and refrigerator when Director King comes back from the conference.

 

Mr. Malito then exited the meeting.

 

Maintenance:

Commissioner Conrad commented that he is looking at digital thermostats to be put in.  Commissioner Pratl asked if they would be warranteed.  Commissioner Conrad said yes.  Commissioner Conrad commented that he is keeping an eye on the new sod that was laid and does not see any flooding in that area and the sod is working out well.

 

Special Projects: 

Commissioner Lind had nothing to report at this time.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

There was no old business to discuss.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

President Pratl called for a motion to designate Director Kevin King, President Pratl and Vice President Mary Crout to serve as delegates to the annual business meeting of the Illinois Association of Park Districts.  Motion was made by Commissioner Lind and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion Carried.

 

President Pratl called for a motion to combine the Regular Committee meeting and the Regular Board Meeting of the Board of Commissioners and cancel the November 24, 2010 Regular Board Meeting of the Board of Commissioners.  Motion was made by Commissioner Conrad and seconded by Commissioner Lind.

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion Carried.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION:

There was no need to enter into Executive Session.

 

ADJOURN

A motion to adjourn at 8:18pm was made by Commissioner Lind and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

All in favor, aye.  Motion Carried.
