Regular Committee/Board Meeting of the

Board of Commissioners

CHICAGO RIDGE PARK DISTRICT

September 8, 2010

 

CALL TO ORDER

President Pratl called the meeting to order at 8:02 pm.

 

ROLL CALL

The following commissioners were present:  Commissioners, Crout, Lind, Conrad, Pratl.

 Also present was Director King.

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Everyone participated in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

PUBLIC/STAFF WISHING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD

There was no one to address the Board.

 

RECREATION COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Crout commented that there was a good turnout for the Illinois Open at Ball Fore.  In regard to the Lily Pad, Director King recommended cutting back the hours of operation to weekends only as weather permits.  Commissioner Crout asked about the Tiny Tot Open House.  Director King said it went well.  Commissioner Crout also asked about the plans for the special event for basketball.  Director King said he did not have definitive plans yet but was working on getting a date. Director King also reported on the number of participants signed up for the classes. 

 

Commissioner Pratl informed the Board that Dominic Malito accepted their offer of the Recreation Supervisor position.

 

Director King also reported that there are 109 children signed up for the RAH program.

Director King brought up the possibility of beginning the RAH program earlier in the morning this year as this would be beneficial for parents who need this.

 

MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Conrad reported that the staff is working on the infields and keeping up with building maintenance.  Commissioner Conrad asked Director King about purchasing a new bus.  Director King commented that he is still getting information together and should have a good comparison for them to review by next meeting.

 

There was discussion about having the maintenance staff lay additional sod as well as fix the batter’s boxes, and paint  the back stops.

 

Director King informed the Board that he is looking into prices for a new stove and refrigerator for Freedom.  Director King is also looking into purchasing vending machines and stocking them with healthier food items.

 

 

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Lind had nothing to report.   The Board was given revenue reports for Ball Fore and Lily Pad. 

 

President Pratl called for a motion to move item #10 New Business on the Agenda before item #8 Special Projects.  Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

Ayes:              Commissioner Crout, Lind, Conrad, Pratl

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion Carried.

 

NEW BUSINESS

President Pratl called for a motion to approve an Ordinance Authorizing the Sale, Conveyance or Disposal of Surplus Personal Property Owned by the Park District as Ordinance #2010-10.  Motion was made by Commissioner Conrad and seconded by Commissioner Lind.

Ayes:              Commissioner Crout, Lind, Conrad, Pratl

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion Carried.

 

SPECIAL PROJECTS

Chair Report

Commissioner Lind opened discussion regarding the Freedom Park renovation.  Commissioner Pratl suggested a red/white/blue patriotic theme to compliment the name of the park. The Board discussed the various options that are available.  Director King encouraged the Board to be specific with their ideas so that they can begin to implement the changes. 

 

Commissioner Pratl commented that the red and yellow carpets will need to be replaced at Ball Fore.  Commissioner Conrad commented that the new orange picnic table faded over the summer and said that he will contact the vendor to see what can be done about it.  Umbrellas will also need to be purchased for next season.

 

OLD BUSINESS

There was no old business to discuss.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION

There was no need to enter into Executive Session.

 

ADJOURN

A motion to adjourn was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Lind at 9:00pm.  All in favor, aye.  Motion carried.
