Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners

CHICAGO RIDGE PARK DISTRICT

June 23, 2010

 

CALL TO ORDER

President Pratl called the meeting to order at 8:03pm.

 

ROLL CALL

The following Commissioners were present:   Crout, Lind, Conrad and Pratl.  Also present was Director King and the recreation intern, Dominic Malito.

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Everyone joined in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

President Pratl called for a motion to approve the minutes of the Regular Board Meeting of the Board of Commissioners of May 26, 2010.  Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Lind.

Ayes:              Commissioner Crout, Lind, Pratl

Nays:              None

Abstain:         Commissioner Conrad

Motion Carried.

 

PUBLIC/STAFF WISHING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD

President Pratl gave the floor to Director King to introduce the Recreation Intern, Dominic Malito, to the Board.  Director King introduced Dominic and informed the Board as to what he has been doing for the Park District which included comments about his working with the T-ball class, the summer brochure, managing duties, etc.  Director King stated that Dominic is doing a good job with everything he has been asked to do and is continuing to learn different aspects of the job.  Commissioner Conrad also commented that he had the opportunity to observe Dominic’s performance and stated that he is very happy with his performance.

 

Commissioner Pratl commented that he had the opportunity to see Dominic at work in the T-ball class and stated that it was going well.

 

Dominic then exited the meeting.  The Board continued discussing his performance and qualifications as a possible recreation supervisor after his internship.

 

FINANCE

Commissioner Lind made a motion to approve the May/June cash disbursements in the amount of $111,328.12.  Motion was seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

Motion Carried.

 

REPORTS

President:    

Commissioner Pratl opened discussion regarding the Salute to Ridge Kids.  Using wrist bands for participants was discussed as well as the number of giveaway items.  The Board agreed to give away the 500 goodie bags on a first come first serve basis - 400 resident/100 non-resident; but shirts will be given to residents only.  All the other services for this event have been contracted and are set.

 

Attorney:

Attorney Stillman was not present at the meeting.  No report was given.

 

Director:

Director King informed the Board that he will have Lee Howard of Governmental Accounting come to the next Committee Meeting to address the Board regarding the finances. 

 

The Board was given the updated Day Camp numbers and was informed that a number of employees have been approved by the Village and the Police Department to park in the Metra lot behind Freedom.  A list of vehicles will be provided to them.  Commissioner Crout asked if she could have a list of where the non-residents are from. 

 

Director King informed the Board that he is looking into a different service provider for waste removal services.  He will let the Board know the price difference when it becomes available.

 

Director King also informed the Board that Tillie Grimberg and Karen Truesdale have completed their on-line training courses for the FOIA and the OMA. 

 

Once again, Commissioner Pratl complimented the staff for doing a good job with the T-ball class.  Director King and Commissioner Conrad also commented on the excellent quality of the class.

 

COMMITTEES:

Recreation: 

Commissioner Crout had nothing to report at this time.  Commissioner Conrad commented on the great time the deaf children had at their picnic at Freedom Park.  He reported that there were 427 children at this event coming from as far away as Rockford, IL.  A good time was had by all the children and he thanked the Board for providing the park and equipment to make this a special event.

 

 

 

Maintenance:

Commissioner Conrad reported on the improvements that have been made, i.e. new picnic tables at Lily Pad and Ball Fore, and the hiring of summer help. He commented that everything was going well.

 

Special Projects: 

Commissioner Lind had nothing to report at this time.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

President Pratl called for a motion to adopt the Prevailing Wage Standards as Ordinance #2010-06.  Motion was made by Commissioner Lind and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

Motion Carried.

 

President Pratl called for a motion to adopt a Resolution Authorizing Querrey and Harrow, Ltd. To Intervene on Behalf of the Chicago Ridge Park District in the Commercial Property Tax Appeal of Chicago Ridge Nursing and Rehab as Resolution #2010-07.  Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Conrad

Abstain:         None

Motion Carried.

 

President Pratl called for a motion to adopt a Resolution Authorizing and Directing the Treasurer of the Chicago Ridge Park District to Transfer Certain Funds from the Recreation Fund to Other Funds as Resolution #2010-08.  Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Lind.

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion Carried.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

There was no new business to discuss.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION:

There was no need for Executive Session.

A motion to adjourn at 8:45pm was made by Commissioner Conrad and seconded by Commissioner Lind.

All in favor, aye.  Motion Carried.
