Regular Committee/Board Meeting of the

Board of Commissioners

CHICAGO RIDGE PARK DISTRICT

October 7, 2009

 

CALL TO ORDER

President Pratl called the meeting to order at 8:00 pm.

 

ROLL CALL

The following commissioners were present:  Commissioners Crout, Lind, Conrad, Pratl.

Also present was Director King.

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Everyone participated in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

PUBLIC/STAFF WISHING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD

A gentleman addressed the Board with concerns about the games played on the baseball diamond at 108th& Menard.  His complaint was that foul balls were coming over the fence into the parking lot for his apartment building, hitting cars and damaging them.  He asked if the Park District could erect nets to catch these baseballs.  After some discussion, President Pratl said they would look into it.  The gentleman then exited the meeting.

 

RECREATION COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Crout asked Director King when the second session classes were scheduled to begin.  He stated they would begin around mid-October/November.  He also commented that flyers will be going out for these classes. 

 

Commissioner Crout asked how the Halloween plans were going.  Director King said they were good.  Everything is set for the Halloween in the Park activities and they are preparing to decorate Ball Fore. 

 

Director’s Report

Director King reported that league registrations were going well. 

 

MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Conrad reported that the staff began working on the fields.  He also commented that they completed the work on the gutters, and that Kamphuis Landscaping will be out to begin the landscaping project.

 

In regard to Ball Fore, Commissioner Conrad reported that they have not had any major problems this year and that the staff has been doing a good job taking care of the minor problems that come up from time to time.

 

President Pratl commented that the fields are looking good and the staff is doing a good job. 

 

Foreman’s Report

The Board was given the maintenance report for their review.

 

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Director King reported that the audit draft was in.  President Pratl commented that they will be looking to approve the bonds at the November Board meeting.

 

SPECIAL PROJECTS

Chair Report

Commissioner Lind asked Director King about the hammer resister issue at the Lily Pad.  Director King said that this may not be resolved until the spring.  He said that at this point no one is taking responsibility for this. Discussion followed. 

 

In regard to the concession building, Director King reported they are working on the venting issue and sink drainage.  Final payouts have not been issued.

 

Commissioner Conrad reported that the maintenance staff fixed the sensor issue regarding the chemicals and water level.  Director King reported that they closed down and winterized the Lily Pad.  He also reported that George’s Landscaping was out to begin the process of seal coating the concrete.

 

OLD BUSINESS

President Pratl called for a motion to authorize the Park District attorney to publish bid notice for the lighting upgrade project at Frontier Fieldhouse.  Motion was made by Commissioner Conrad and seconded by Commissioner Crout.

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion Carried

 

President Pratl called for a motion to approve Sportsfields, Inc. to renovate the big league field, weather permitting, for an amount not to exceed $9,000.  Motion was made by Commissioner Lind and seconded by Commissioner Crout.

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion Carried

 

NEW BUSINESS

There was no new business at this time.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION

There was not need to enter into Executive Session.

A motion to adjourn was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Lind at 8:24pm.  All in favor, aye.  Motion carried.
