Regular Committee/Board Meeting of the

Board of Commissioners

CHICAGO RIDGE PARK DISTRICT

August 13, 2008

CALL TO ORDER

President Pratl called the meeting to order at 8:00 pm.

ROLL CALL

The following commissioners were present:  Commissioner Crout, Lind, Conrad, Pratl

Commissioner Hovel was absent with notice.  Also present was Director King.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Everyone participated in the Pledge of Allegiance.

PUBLIC/STAFF WISHING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD

There was no one to address the Board at this time.

RECREATION COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Crout commented that she received the new brochure and that the pictures on the inside back cover of the holiday house decorating contest were nice.  She also asked Director King if she could have some flyers on the co-ed softball tournament to pass out.  Director King said he will take care of it.

Director’s Report

Commissioner Pratl asked Director King how the registration was going.  Director King said it was going slow.  He also commented that there was a mistake in the brochure regarding Fitness rates and that a disclaimer with the correct rates will be given to anyone who signs up.  He commented that he is concerned with the Tiny Tot program.  Last year there were 10 children, but as of this date, only 5 have signed up again.  They need at least 9 children with two workers for this program.  He is working with Coni Ryan who will be calling the other 5 parents from last year to see if they will be signing their children up.  He commented that the downstairs class already has 15-16 children and it would be a hardship to combine the classes due to the size of the room.  He said he needs someone to work with Coni Ryan on a regular basis outside of class time who could assist with planning, other mini classes, etc.  She is currently working with Helen; however, Helen is only assisting in the classroom and cannot work outside of that time frame.  He is working with the staff to find someone to fill this position and should know something by the end of the week.

The car show is scheduled for this Saturday as well as Ring of Honor wrestling, and leagues are starting up.

MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Conrad reported that the maintenance staff removed the dead trees.  In regard to the fields, Commissioner Conrad said he would like to get someone in other than Jim Walsh to do some work.  Commissioner Pratl asked if he had anyone in mind and Commissioner Conrad said he had a couple of names and Director King will be calling them.   Director King said he had contacted Jim Walsh but has had no response from him.

Commissioner Conrad reported that the gator now is outfitted with lights which will increase its usability.   The Board has heard many compliments and comments from the public regarding the purchase of the new bus.  It has proved to be a tremendous asset to the Park District.

Commissioner Pratl asked Commissioner Conrad to look into correcting the drainage problem near the sewer at 107th & Menard by possibly replacing the sod with asphalt in the small area leading up to the sewer.  Discussion ensued.

Commissioner Pratl commented that the tennis court, basketball court, and batting cage area at the Administration Building is looking terrible.  The Board discussed solutions; however, Director King suggested waiting until the current projects are completed.

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Chair Report

The Board was given a revenue breakdown of Ball Fore activity.  Director King pointed out the new fall hours.  Commissioner Pratl asked about how the party room was doing.  Director King said that they had some parties, nothing overwhelming, but consistent.

Director King said he was expecting the audit report by next meeting.
