Regular Committee/Board Meeting of the

Board of Commissioners

CHICAGO RIDGE PARK DISTRICT

June 14, 2017

 

CALL TO ORDER

President Pratl called the meeting to order at 8:00pm.

 

ROLL CALL

The following commissioners were present:  Commissioners Conrad, Egan, Albon, Pratl

Commissioner Crout was absent with notice.

Also present: Director King, and Maintenance Superintendent Biskey.

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Everyone participated in the Pledge of Allegiance. 

 

PUBLIC/STAFF WISHING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD

There was no one to address the Board.

 

RECREATION COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Albon reported that Recreation Superintendent Malito could not attend the meeting but she had spoken with him.  The Board was given his written report for review.

 

Day Camp currently has 122 children registered.  Eight families with twelve children were approved for financial assistance.  Fifteen employees were CPR certified and twelve more will be certified by June 14th.

 

The basketball league will be finishing up on June 28th.

 

Director King reported on the day camp conference at Moraine Valley which Recreation Superintendent Malito and two day camp coordinators attended stating that it was a very good conference.  The opening speaker, Katie Quick, will do a presentation to the staff on Monday, July 17th.

 

The Chicago Ridge/Worth Chamber of Commerce event went well.  The Chicago Ridge Park District had a table set up with the Prize Wheel and giveaways, and received 15 new e-mail addresses for the mailing database.

 

Fifteen participants attended the trip to the Chicago Botanical Gardens.

 

Commissioner Albon reported that there is a conflict with the date for the volleyball clinic and suggested possibly rescheduling that event.

 

 

 

MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Egan reported that he has walked the parks and they all look good. He did mention some bolts that needed tightening on some benches. Maintenance Superintendent Biskey said they were fixing them. He then gave the floor to Maintenance Superintendent Biskey for his report.

 

Superintendent’s Report

Superintendent Biskey reported that the putting greens at Ball Fore were replaced. The course has a brand new look. Weed killer/prevention has been applied.

 

Arnold’s Heating & Air-Conditioning was out to inspect and change out air filters in all facilities.  There were no issues.

 

Take Action Services has completed the tile renovation at the Lombard building. 

 

Ring of Honor held a wrestling event at Frontier Fieldhouse on Saturday, June 3rd. The event went extremely well and the facility was cleaned and ready for the following day’s activities.

 

Eight new banquet tables and 100 new folding chairs were purchased for the district and will be used for in-house events only.

 

The maintenance crew continues to water the new seed at Tower Park.  All parks continue to be cut and trimmed on a weekly basis and new mulch will be added to parks.

 

Director’s Report

Director King reported that the maintenance department will stripe the parking lot at Ball Fore in the coming weeks, weather permitting. 

 

Lily Pad is up and running.  Penny Lane and High Hopes have started coming out on their rental dates.

 

Director King is still working with Ring of Honor for another event in October.

 

The drainage issue by the water fountain in Freedom Park will be addressed by the Village’s Public Works Department as this issue is due in part to the Ridge Fest. 

 

CRAA has expressed a need to expand the concession stand as the health inspector wants them to have a third sink.  The Park District will work with them on this.

 

A new popcorn machine was ordered for the Lily Pad.  Director King commented that the revenue for Ball Fore has been good to date.

 

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Chair Report

There was nothing to discuss at this time.

 

 

SPECIAL PROJECTS

Chair Report

Commissioner Conrad had nothing new to present at this time.  Director King commented that they need to think about redoing the paths by the playground at Freedom Park. The pavilion will be removed in the fall. The Board discussed some ideas for that space.

 

OLD BUSINESS

There was no old business to discuss.

 

NEW BUSINESS

There was no old business to discuss. 

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION

There was no need to enter Executive Session.

 

ADJOURN. 

President Pratl called for a motion to adjourn at 8:28pm.  Motion was made by Commissioner Conrad and seconded by Commissioner Egan.  All in favor, aye.  Motion carried.
