Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners

CHICAGO RIDGE PARK DISTRICT

May 24, 2017

CALL TO ORDER

President Pratl called the meeting to order at 8:24pm.

 

ROLL CALL

The following Commissioners were present:   Conrad, Albon and Pratl.

Commissioner Crout and Egan were absent with notice

Also present: Director King and Superintendent Malito.

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Everyone joined in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

President Pratl called for a motion to approve the minutes of the Public Hearing of April 26, 2017.  Motion was made by Commissioner Conrad and seconded by Commissioner Albon.

Ayes:              Commissioners Conrad, Albon and Pratl

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion Carried.

 

President Pratl called for a motion to approve the minutes of the Regular Board Meeting dated April 26, 2017.  Motion was made by Commissioner Albon and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion Carried.

 

President Pratl called for a motion to approve the minutes of the Regular Committee Meeting of May 10, 2017.  Motion was made by Commissioner Albon and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

Ayes:              Commissioners Conrad, Albon, Pratl

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion Carried.

 

PUBLIC/STAFF WISHING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD

There was no one to address the Board.

 

FINANCE

President Pratl called for a motion to approve cash disbursements from April 19th through May 16th, 2017, in the amount of $59,144.47.  Motion was made by Commissioner Conrad and seconded by Commissioner  Albon.

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion Carried.

 

REPORTS

President:

President Pratl had a few comments about Tower Park.  The project is finished and looks good.  The next project will be the gazebo/shade structure at Freedom Park.

 

Attorney:

Attorney Stillman was not at the meeting. 

 

Director:

In regard to Tower Park, Director King complimented Hacienda Landscaping for a great job done.  The job was finished on time and there were no issues.

 

New contracts were executed for Waste Management.

 

Ridge/Worth Chamber of Commerce is hosting a “Promote Your Business” event on May 31st.  The Park District will have a table display promoting our programs as well as the Chamber.

 

Director King attended the PDRMA annual membership meeting.  The Association is doing well and the Park District was awarded the highest honor for achievement in loss control which is Accreditation along with total cash incentive awards of $3,000 in the last 2 years.

 

The carpets have been received for the Ball Fore facility – an installation date has not yet been confirmed. Both Lily Pad and Ball Fore are ready for the Memorial Day weekend.  Director King reported on the sign at Ball Fore which needs repair/replacement.  He also reported, on a side note, that the scoreboards at Frontier will also need to be replaced as they do not make that model anymore and parts are difficult to get.

 

There is a Ring of Honor event on June 3rd which will be a TV taping, and a possibility of another two-day event in October.  Another company has called to rent Frontier; Recreation Superintendent Malito is looking into it.

 

The renovation of the fields has worked out well; there have been no issues.

 

The new payroll service offers direct deposit and on-line employee access.  All employees will be given the opportunity to sign up for these services.

 

There was some discussion regarding the plans for the Park District’s 50th anniversary celebration.

 

 

 

 

COMMITTEES:

Recreation:

Recreation Superintendent Malito reported on the Day camp plans.  A couple of financial assistance applications were presented to the Board for their review.

 

Superintendent Malito, along with two other employees, will be attending a day camp workshop at Moraine Valley Community College on Friday, June 2nd.  Topics will include behavior management, water safety, and games.

 

New water bottles were ordered as giveaways for various events; new shirts were also ordered for staff, managers and Commissioners.

 

Trinity Christian College will be having a one-day volleyball camp at Frontier Fieldhouse on Sunday, June 25th.

 

As there was nothing further, Superintendent Malito then exited the meeting.

 

Maintenance:

Commissioner Egan was not at the meeting.  The Board was given a written report from Superintendent Biskey for their review.

 

Director King reported that the maintenance crew has been busy getting the Lily Pad ready for opening weekend, training staff on troubleshooting procedures at Ball Fore, and trimming trees and bushes at Tower Park.

 

Chicago Backflow and Reliable Fire inspections have been completed at the Lily Pad.  There were no issues.

 

New tile is scheduled to be laid in the entry and stairwells of the Administration building.

 

Cedar Valley came out to spread and fill fresh ADA compliant woodchips at Jenkins Park and Freedom Park.  The maintenance staff will be filling Frontier and O’Connell playgrounds with new wood chips as well.

 

CRAA opening day went well which included games on all fields as well as a parade through town and commemorative ceremony.

 

SPECIAL PROJECTS: 

Commissioner Conrad had nothing new at this time.  He is waiting for some new catalogs to arrive with ideas/pictures for a new shelter/gazebo.  Also for consideration is new landscaping at Frontier.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

President Pratl opened discussion regarding staff salary increases proposing a 3% increase for all employees with the exception of the newly hired employees.  The Board was in agreement.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

There was no new business to discuss.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION:

There was no need to enter into Executive Session.

 

ADJOURN

President Pratl called for a motion to adjourn at 8:53 pm.  Motion was made by Commissioner Albon and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.   All in favor, everyone responded aye.  Motion Carried.
