Regular Committee/Board Meeting of the

Board of Commissioners


May 10, 2017



President Pratl called the meeting to order at 8:00pm.



The following commissioners were present:  Commissioners Crout, Conrad, Albon, Pratl

Commissioner Egan was absent with notice.

Also present: Recreation Superintendent Malito and Maintenance Superintendent Biskey.



Everyone participated in the Pledge of Allegiance. 



There was no one to address the Board.



Chair Report

Commissioner Albon reported that there were 67 attendees for the Mother/Son Bowl and commented that it was a great event.


Superintendent’s Report

Recreation Superintendent Malito reported that he printed fliers for the Tiny Tot program to be given out during the registration at the school as another option for parents. 


Day Camp registration began on May 1st.  There are currently 7 children signed up.  This will pick up closer to the end of the school year.  Many marketing avenues have been tapped into to generate interest.


CPR classes have been set for May 31st & June 7th for all park district recreation staff.


Tiny Tot Graduation will be on Wednesday, May 10th & May 11th at Freedom Activity Center.


Staff interviews for Ball Fore/Lily Pad supervisors took place.  Four out of the five people were offered positions; one declined.  They will work with the 3 they have for now.


Windy City Basketball will be turning in a permit to use Frontier Fieldhouse from June until August 20th.


Superintendent Malito reported that he is working on the volleyball camp. A free one-day camp will be offered on Sunday, June 25th; time to be determined.




Chair Report

President Pratl gave the floor to Maintenance Superintendent Biskey for his report.


Superintendent’s Report

Superintendent Biskey reported on the Tower Park project.  The pour-in-place surfacing has been done and will be cured within 36-48 hours. Playground equipment is in and other work will be done weather permitting. Superintendent Biskey reported that Hacienda Landscaping, Inc. has done a good job and they have had no issues with them.


Superintendent Biskey reported that he and the maintenance crew met with Amusement Products at Ball Fore to assess the equipment and to go over the operation of the batting cages along with troubleshooting procedures.  Superintendent Biskey will be meeting with staff to go over the proper operation of the batting cages, fountain pumps and troubleshooting.


Opening procedures will begin at the Lily Pad next week to get ready for the public.


Maintenance has been busy cutting, trimming and keeping the fields ready for games.  Woodchips and mulch will be added to specific areas as needed.


Director’s Report

The Board reviewed the Director’s report that was submitted.  Topics covered included:

Ø  Audit – Plans are underway with Knutte & Associates; the engagement letter has been sent;

Ø  Ring of Honor has an event scheduled for June 3rd;

Ø  Director King will be attending the PDRMA Annual Membership meeting on May 16th;

Ø  The park district will host a table at the “Promote Your Business” event put on by the Chicago Ridge/Worth Chamber of Commerce.

There was nothing to discuss at this time.



Chair Report

Commissioner Conrad had nothing new to present at this time.  There was some discussion regarding the next project being the shelter at Freedom Park; possibly in late fall.


Commissioner Pratl directed Maintenance Superintendent Biskey to work with Hacienda to possibly keep the construction fence up as the area is sodded for added protection.



President Pratl called for a motion to approve the Ridge Fest permit for 2017.  Motion was made by Commissioner Conrad and seconded by Commissioner Albon.

Motion Carried.



There was no old business to discuss. 



There was no need to enter Executive Session.



President Pratl called for a motion to adjourn at 8:17pm.  Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.  All in favor, aye.  Motion carried.
