Regular Committee/Board Meeting of the Board of Commissioners CHICAGO RIDGE PARK DISTRICT January 11, 2017
CALL TO ORDER President Pratl called the meeting to order at 7:00pm.
ROLL CALL The following commissioners were present: Commissioners Crout, Conrad, Egan, Pratl Commissioner Albon was absent with notice. Also present: Director King, Recreation Superintendent Malito and Maintenance Superintendent Biskey.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Everyone participated in the Pledge of Allegiance.
PUBLIC/STAFF WISHING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD There was no one to address the Board.
RECREATION COMMITTEE Chair Report President Pratl gave the floor to Recreation Superintendent Malito for his report.
Superintendent’s Report Recreation Superintendent Malito reported that he scheduled a trip to see the Disney on Ice for February 11th. There are currently 14 signed up for this event.
The Frontier Fieldhouse is being rented out every night of the week during January and February.
The items that were collected from the Holiday Giving Tree were dropped off at the St. Vincent De Paul Society at Our lady of the Ridge. Over 50 items were donated.
Plans are underway for the Daddy/Daughter Date Night. Jack and Pats will be catering the food and cakes will be purchased from Sam’s Club. Flyers will be sent out.
Instructional basketball class will resume. There are 4 more weeks of classes.
The RAH children returned to school on January 9th. They had a great two weeks at the Park District with plenty of activities; such as, inflatable day, field trip to Haunted Trails, Christmas party, pancake breakfast along with many other activities and games.
Commissioner Conrad asked if they were going to use the same vendor for give-away gifts for the Daddy/Daughter event. Recreation Superintendent Malito stated that he is researching gifts and vendors. MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE Chair Report Commissioner Egan gave the floor to Maintenance Superintendent Biskey for his report.
Superintendent’s Report Superintendent Biskey reported that the Village Public Works department installed a new water meter in the garage at Commissioners Park. A frozen meter was the cause of the leak in December. The water will stay off until March at which point an inspection will take place on the water lines in the building and repairs will be made.
The new playground equipment was delivered and stored in the yard at Commissioners Park.
All three park district buses were brought in for an oil change and checkup.
All Christmas decorations are down and put away. There was no damage/vandalism to the signs.
Arnolds HVAC was out to repair a defective valve on the hanging heater at the maintenance garage.
The facilities are still busy with leagues and rentals. The maintenance staff continues to make sure the buildings are clean and prepared for the weekend activities/parties.
Director’s Report Director King reported that he received some pictures regarding new spray heads for the Lily Pad. He will be working with Vortex on this as well as getting ideas for new surfacing.
Director King reported that the numbers were low for open gym at Frontier during the holidays and will be working with Recreation Superintendent Malito on activities that will draw the kids into the facility not only during winter break, but when the schools are off for the occasional holiday throughout the year as well.
The Board was given a breakdown of the holiday discount fitness passes that were given out. The discount will be offered through the end of January.
A help wanted ad was placed in the Report, The Ridge Citizen, on the website and social media for a part-time maintenance position. The current staff is maintaining the property in a professional manner.
The IAPD Conference is coming up. Director King will be going along with Commissioner Conrad, Superintendents Biskey and Malito and Facilities Manager Gayle Boettger.
Commissioner Pratl asked about the fitness center machines. Director King stated that they will be getting new rower machines. Recreation Superintendent Malito reported on the research he did for replacing the other cardio equipment; however, trade-in value is not enough to warrant replacing all the machines at this time. Discussion ensued.
FINANCE COMMITTEE Chair Report The Board was given correspondence from Attorney Elizabeth Shine-Hermes regarding the Sears PTAB.
SPECIAL PROJECTS Chair Report Commissioner Conrad had nothing new to discuss at this time. Commissioner Pratl commented that he spoke with Attorney Stillman regarding the preparation of the bid specs for the Tower Park project.
OLD BUSINESS There was no old business to discuss.
NEW BUSINESS There was no old business to discuss.
EXECUTIVE SESSION There was no need to enter Executive Session.
ADJOURN. President called for a motion to adjourn at 7:23pm. Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Conrad. All in favor, aye. Motion carried.
