Regular Committee/Board Meeting of the

Board of Commissioners

CHICAGO RIDGE PARK DISTRICT

August 10, 2016

 

CALL TO ORDER

President Pratl called the meeting to order at 8:02pm.

 

ROLL CALL

The following commissioners were present:  Commissioners Conrad, Albon, Pratl  Commissioner Crout absent with notice; Commissioner Egan absent

Also present: Director King and Recreation Superintendent Malito

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Everyone participated in the Pledge of Allegiance. 

 

PUBLIC/STAFF WISHING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD

There was no one to address the Board.

 

RECREATION COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Albon asked about the participation for the upcoming boat tour trip for the seniors and the Air and Water Show trip.  Superintendent Malito reported that there is good participation for both events. 

 

Superintendent Malito also reported on the RAH program beginning on August 8th as well as the Tiny Tots program.  The school district is offering a free program which has affected the Park District’s program participation.  Efforts are being made to increase enrollment.

 

The Kite Fly took place on August 3rd at Menard Park.  A reporter from the Southtown Star was out to take pictures.

Commissioner Pratl made a suggestion for a “back to school” night event(s) at Ball Fore.  Discussion ensued.  Director King informed the Board that the school superintendent, Kevin Russell, brought his staff to Ball Fore after their retreat and had a great time.

 

Superintendent Malito reported on the plans for the Santa Express.

 

MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE

Chair Report

Commissioner Egan reported on the condition of Freedom Park after the Ridge Fest.   The Board was given a proposal from Doran’s Landscaping for the necessary park repairs.

 

Sherlock Carpet and Floors completed the renovation of the day room floor at Freedom Activity Center.  The bathroom and party room floor renovation at the Administration building is scheduled to begin on August 22nd.

 

President Pratl gave the floor to Director King to continue giving report on the Fest damage to the Park.  The Village had dirt delivered on Thursday, August 4th, the CRPD maintenance staff aerated on Friday, August 5th, but as of this date, no seed has been laid and the park remains unusable.  Commissioner Pratl reported that he spoke with Stan, the Public Works Superintendent at the Village, and requested the work be done immediately.

 

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Chair Report

There was nothing to discuss at this time.

 

SPECIAL PROJECTS

Chair Report

Commissioner Conrad had nothing new to discuss at this time.

 

Director’s Report

Director King reported on his meeting with Chuck Gardner from NuToys who visited Tower Park, O’Connell Park and Frontier Park.  He expects to have something from Chuck within a couple of weeks.  Director King will also meet with representatives from Burke, Cunningham Recreation and Landscape Structures as well regarding the upgrades to these parks.  Director King is looking to possibly purchase equipment from a co-op again and hopefully secure grant monies if available.

 

Commissioner Pratl asked Director King to elaborate on Superintendent Russell’s use of Ball Fore.  Director King stated that the participants played rounds of golf; they were given a 100th anniversary commemorative golf ball, a Park District magnet as well as additional passes for a free round of golf. 

 

OLD BUSINESS

There was no old business to discuss.

 

NEW BUSINESS

There was no new business to discuss.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION

There was no need to enter Executive Session.

 

 ADJOURN. 

President Pratl called for a motion to adjourn at 8:44pm.  Motion was made by Commissioner Conrad and seconded by Commissioner Egan.  All in favor, aye.  Motion carried.
