Regular Committee/Board Meeting of the

Board of Commissioners


May 11, 2016



Vice President Crout called the meeting to order at 8:01pm.



The following commissioners were present:  Commissioners Conrad, Egan, Albon, Crout.  Commissioner Pratl was absent with notice.  Also present: Director King, and Recreation Superintendent Malito.



Everyone participated in the Pledge of Allegiance. 



There was no one to address the Board.



Chair Report

Commissioner Crout gave the floor to Recreation Superintendent Malito for his report.


Supervisor’s Report

Superintendent Malito reported on the Mother/Son Bowling event; they had 56 participants.


The new rock wall is being used on a daily basis.  Staff and children have taken and passed the safety test.


Tiny Tot Prom took place on Friday, May 6th at the Freedom Activity Center.


Men’s basketball league started on May 4th.  There are 9 teams; league will run until July 27th.


Superintendent Malito also reported on the registrations for Day Camp and Wewannatoo camps.  Additional staff may be needed to run these programs.


Neighborhood watch magnets have been handed out to participants in Park District programs, classes, at the Senior Luncheon and to the CRAA teams prior to the opening day parade.


A new instructor for Yoga will be starting classes due to the maternity leave of the current instructor.


Full day RAH will be offered from the end of school which is June 1st to the beginning of day camp which is June 13th.





Chair Report

Commissioner Egan reported that he had been in contact during the week with Maintenance Superintendent Biskey and reviewed the written report submitted by Maintenance Superintendent Biskey.


Construction has begun at Guardian Park.  Director King stated that the security fence is up and some of the equipment has been installed.  There are no issues at this point.


The Tiny Tot Prom went well and Commissioner Egan complimented the staff.


The maintenance staff removed the existing red wood fences from Freedom Park and Frontier Park.  They also filled in the holes with stone and dirt which will be monitored and as the stone and dirt compact they will refill the holes so the ground will remain level.


The fields continue to be worked on and prepared for use. 


Director’s Report

Director King reported on a couple of recent acts of vandalism to Tower Park.  He hopes that the neighborhood watch magnets will help people to report suspicious activities or acts of vandalism in the parks.


Director King reported that the Park District was awarded the PowerPlay Grant for the after school program and has already received the funds.


Director King attended the legislative conference.  Topics of interest included the minimum wage and property tax freeze which could affect the Park District.


Director King reported on the Ring of Honor event.  This was a great event for the Park District, everyone worked hard to make this a success.  The Park District received a call from the bus company next door to Frontier offering the use of their parking lot which was great for this event.


The fitness center at Frontier will be getting a good make-over with cleaning, painting, etc. as well as the bathrooms.


Director King informed the Board that the Village is experiencing a rat problem for which they will be putting out traps throughout the village.  The Village was informed that traps would not be allowed on Park District property in open areas where there are patrons or children playing.


The Board was given correspondence from Attorney Elizabeth Shine Hermes regarding tax objections.


The Board reviewed quotes from C&C Asphalt regarding sealcoating and striping the parking lot at Frontier for their review.

There was no need to enter Executive Session.



Vice President Crout called for a motion to adjourn at 8:30pm.  Motion was made by Commissioner Egan and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.  All in favor, aye.  Motion carried.
