Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners

CHICAGO RIDGE PARK DISTRICT

April 27, 2016

CALL TO ORDER

President Pratl called the meeting to order at 8:06pm.

 

ROLL CALL

The following Commissioners were present:   Crout, Conrad, Egan, Albon and Pratl.

Also present: Director King, Recreation Superintendent Malito and Maintenance Superintendent Biskey.

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Everyone joined in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

President Pratl called for a motion to approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting of March 23, 2016.  Motion was made by Commissioner Egan and seconded by Commissioner Albon.

Ayes:              Commissioner Egan, Albon, Pratl

Nays:              None

Abstain:         Crout, Conrad

Motion Carried.

 

PUBLIC/STAFF WISHING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD

There was no one to address the Board.

 

FINANCE

President Pratl called for a motion to approve cash disbursements from March 16th through April 12, 2016, in the amount of $49,511.23.   Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Conrad.

Nays:              None

Abstain:         None

Motion Carried.

 

President Pratl gave the floor to Director King to report on the preliminary budget to be adopted.  The final budget will be approved at the first meeting in June.  After review, President Pratl asked for a motion to adopt the preliminary budget for fiscal year 2016-2017.  Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Albon.

REPORTS

President:

President Pratl complimented staff on a job well done at Frontier Fieldhouse keeping up with the programs, facilities, etc.  The baseball fields are looking good as well.

 

Attorney:

Attorney Stillman was not at the meeting.  No report was given.

 

Director:

Director King reported that construction on Guardian Park will begin Monday, May 2nd.

 

The Board was given a FOIA request that was received.

 

The traverse wall was installed on April 21st.  Staff is being trained as to what activities to do and how to do them.  Parents will also be notified of the new equipment.

 

The lease was signed with the C.R.A.A.  The Board was given a letter outlining some repairs they would like to do.  Director King suggested having the Park District take care of installing a new gutter for them to alleviate the flooding problem.

 

The Park District is set for the opening day of baseball.

 

Park security staff has begun patrolling the parks and facilities. 

 

The Lombard fence will be repaired and the trees taken down in the next two weeks.

 

Recreation Superintendent Malito and Maintenance Superintendent Biskey are in the process of obtaining their CDL license.

 

Director King also informed the Board that Our Lady of the Ridge had requested a donation of tents for their upcoming 5K walk as well as a donation of fitness passes.

 

Chicago Ridge School District 127.5 has requested transportation to the library for their annual Battle of the Books event.

 

The Park District has received compensation from PDRMA for the field repair to Memorial Park.

 

Director King is working with Ring of Honor on their pay-per-view event in May.  Phone lines were added to Frontier for the live streaming.  This will be a big event.  Additional concession areas will be added as well as port-o-johns and additional parking will be secured with a shuttle service.

 

The Board was given March financial statements for their review.

 

COMMITTEES:

Recreation:

Commissioner Crout asked Superintendent Malito about the financial aid cutoff date for Day Camp. He replied that it is June 8th.

 

Mother/Son Bowl is scheduled for Friday, May 6th at Palos Lanes. 

 

Commissioner Crout then gave the floor to Superintendent Malito for his report.

 

Superintendent’s Report:

Superintendent Malito reported on the Day Camp preparations. Parents will be made aware of the field trips, special events, inflatable days and water slide days in advance so they can be prepared. They will need to hire additional staff for this program.  CPR/First Aid training will be scheduled.

 

Senior spring luncheon will be Tuesday, May 10th.

 

Superintendent Malito also reported that he and Facilities Manager Boettger are shopping around for new recreation software.  Commissioner Crout made a few comments regarding the software currently being used by the Oak Lawn Park District.  Director King made some remarks regarding potential cost, staff training, etc.

 

Maintenance:

Commissioner Egan made a few comments regarding the batting cages at Ball Fore.  The managers have been trained to handle minor issues and cages are running fine.

 

He also stated that the fields look great.  He has not heard any complaints.

 

Superintendent’s Report:

Maintenance Superintendent Biskey reported in more detail regarding Ball Fore, field preparations, facility cleanings, etc.

 

Special Projects: 

Commissioner Conrad commented that he is anxious for the Guardian Park project to begin.  He is also pleased with the way the Lombard meditation area is blooming.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

There was no old business to discuss.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

There was no new business to discuss.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION:

There was no need to enter into Executive Session.

 

ADJOURN

President Pratl called for a motion to adjourn at 8:43 pm.  Motion was made by Commissioner Crout and seconded by Commissioner Albon.   All in favor, everyone responded aye.  Motion Carried.
